Student clubs, organizations, and initiatives at UVic offer opportunities to get involved in your campus community, meet new people, and work together to make a difference.
THE ENVIRONMENTAL LAW
CLUB (ELC)
Community Cabbage volunteers serve a free weekly vegetarian meal to the campus community using 'reclaimed food' - edible but unsellable food donated by grocery stores. Their mandate is to increase access to healthy food, build cooking skills, decrease food waste, and provide a safe, community-oriented space to engage with food at UVic.

ANCIENT FOREST COMMITTEE
The Ancient Forest Committee is focused on protecting Vancouver Island's ancient rainforests and educating students about them. They host a variety of events on and off campus, including rallies, movie screenings, letter writing campaigns, and hiking and camping trips to ancient forests.

CAMPUS COMMUNITY GARDEN
The Campus Community Garden is an affiliate group of the UVSS that manages an urban agriculture space off of McKenzie Avenue across from the athletic fields. Students can apply for their own garden plot, or attend free 'work parties' and workshops to build gardening skills.

DIVEST UVIC
Divest UVic is a coalition of students, faculty, staff and alumni seeking divestment of UVic’s Endowment funds from Fossil Fuel extraction, transportation, and refinement companies.

UVIC DOGWOOD COMMUNITY
This is a student-run chapter of Dogwood Initiative, a non-partisan citizen action network in BC. Dogwood's main focus is supporting Indigenous communities in asserting and protecting their rights and title within their traditional territories. Initiatives they organize include zero-waste fundraising events.

ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION VOLUNTEER NETWORK (ERVN)
The ERVN is a student group that works to remove invasive plant species, and restore native species on the UVic campus, and in other aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Their aim is to build student capacity to restore ecosystems through workshops, training sessions, field trips, and restoration events on campus and in their native plant garden and nursery.

LAW CLUB (ELC)
The ELC is open to law students from all years of study, and aims to promote awareness of environmental sustainability and conservation issues. They host guest lectures, film screenings, and other events, and sponsor student attending the annual Public Interest Environmental Law Conference.

The UVic Greens include students who support the mission and values of the BC Greens, the Green Party of Canada, and the Global Greens. They host social events and outreach initiatives such as tabling on campus.

OCEAN STUDENTS' SOCIETY
The Ocean Students' Society is an interdisciplinary group of undergraduate and graduate students who share a common interest in the world's oceans. They share relevant job postings, events, and information in an online forum.

PARKS CLUB
UVIc Parks Club is focused on promoting conservation, recreation, and restoration in regional, provincial, and federal parks. They host events such as fundraisers and movie nights, and facilitate camping and hiking trips and beach clean-ups in parks on Vancouver Island.

PRECIOUS PLASTICS
Precious Plastics focuses on sustainable engineering, and members are currently focused on building a compact plastic recycling plant at UVic. The club uses open source resources from the global Precious Plastics community.

REPAIR CAFE
The Repair Café is a collaborative meeting space that allows campus community members to repair household items and learn new skills. They alsi have held events such as clothing swaps.

SACRED ECOLOGY
Sacred Ecology bases its practice on the work of the environmental activist and scholar Joanna Macy. They offer weekly meetups in the UVic Interfaith Chapel.

STUDENTS FOR THE SALISH SEA
The UVic chapter of Students for the Salish Sea is part of a four univerisity and college network across BC and Washington dedicated to protecting and restoring the health of the Salish Sea and surrounding watershed. They host events such as documentary screenings and beach cleanups, and hold weekly meetings.

Surfrider UVic is a university chapter of the international non-profit Surfrider Foundation, which focuses on environmental stewardship of oceans and beaches. Surfrider UVic organizes events such as beach cleanups in the Victoria area.

UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT (UVSP)
The UVSP strives to re-conceptualize sustainability by promoting environmentally friendly practices and formulating and implementing sustainable systems on campus. They provide grants for sustainable start-up projects, run campaigns such as the "Love My Mug" program which aims to eliminate paper cups on campus, and hold events.

The UVic chapter of international non-profit The Wildlife Society aims to build an accessible community through science and education for students who are interested in wildlife stewardship. They hold social events and workshops, and provide information about relevant job and volunteer opportunities.

STUDENT ASSOCIATION (ESSA)
ESSA is the Undergraduate Course Union for Environmental Studies students. ESSA organizes a wide variety of events and projects such as ecological restoration work-parties, charity fundraisers, careers nights, ethnobotanical nature walks, and print publications (the ESSENCE zine).
